Suit challenging CFPB’s constitutionality defeated without trial

On October 17, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau avoided trial in a lawsuit brought by a litigation support company, Morgan Drexen Inc., which challenged the CFPB’s constitutional right to exist. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sided with the CFPB.

Bipartisan organization urges CFPB improvements

The Bipartisan Policy Center released a comprehensive study of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. While praising some aspects of the CFPB’s first two years, the report expressed concerns about transparency at the federal agency.

Chase and JPMorgan Chase fined for credit card practices

In coordination with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Chase Bank USA, N.A. and JPMorgan Chase, N.A. to refund approximately $309 million to more than 2.1 million customers for what the CFPB termed illegal credit card practices.
