PHH appeal a test of CFPB authority

The U.S. Federal Court of Appeals has halted a CFPB enforcement action against PHH Mortgage. PHH filed a motion for a “stay of final action” as part of its appeal of the $109 million enforcement ruling that found PHH took kickbacks from mortgage insurers.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has penalized two of the largest employment background screening companies in the nation with fines and relief payments for allegedly reporting inaccurate information about job applicants.
